Company

A technology company built like a polymath

Praxionic is two engineering houses, one in the United States and one in Pakistan, working as a single team for clients around the world. We cover 18 disciplines because real projects never stay inside one.

prax·i·on·ic

praxis
Greek πρᾶξις, “doing”. For Aristotle, the third human activity after thinking and making: knowledge put into action.
ion
Greek ἰόν, “going”. An atom that carries a charge, named in 1834 because it moves.

Practice, in motion

The name says what we care about. Knowing how is the easy part to claim. The work is in doing it: shipping the system, closing the vulnerability, keeping the service up at three in the morning.

The word ion was suggested to Michael Faraday by William Whewell, a polymath who also gave English the word scientist. We like the company. Our index of disciplines is laid out like a table of elements for the same reason: each one is distinct, and they are most useful in combination.

How we work

Think. Make. Do.

Three stages, named for Aristotle's three activities. Every engagement passes through all of them, whatever its size.

  1. 01theoria

    Think

    Understand before building

We learn the business, the constraints and what success looks like, then put scope, architecture, risks and cost in writing so you can decide with the facts in front of you.

  2. 02poiesis

    Make

    Build in the open

Design and engineering move in short cycles. You see working software regularly, security and testing are part of the build, and changes of direction are priced before they are made.

  3. 03praxis

    Do

    Run it and keep improving

Launch is the middle of the job. We host, monitor, support and extend what we build, and hand over cleanly whenever you want to take it in-house.

What we hold ourselves to

  • Specialists who talk to each other

Security people review what engineers build. Data people are in the room when a product is designed. Breadth only helps if the disciplines actually meet.

  • One team in two places

Both houses share the same standards, reviews and tooling. Work is handed across time zones, never thrown over a wall.

  • Plain language

Estimates, risks and trade-offs are written so that a non-engineer can make the call.

  • Still here after launch

We would sooner run what we build than walk away from it, so we build it to be run.

Ways to engage

Four ways to work with us

  • 01

    Project

A defined outcome with an agreed scope, timeline and price.

  • 02

    Dedicated team

Engineers who work only on your product, inside your process.

  • 03

    Managed service

We run a system or function for you against agreed service levels.

  • 04

    Advisory

Audits, reviews and strategy by the day or on retainer.

Offices

Two houses, one team

Both houses design, build and support. Projects are staffed from whichever mix of people and hours suits the client.

Between them, the two houses are at work for about 18 hours of every weekday. Bands show a typical 9:00 to 18:00 local day.

A short message is enough. We will come back with questions, then a plan.
